Nasdaq seeks an Application Support Engineer to join the Systems Operations team in Sydney, delivering hands-on production support for Nasdaq applications in Linux/Unix, monitoring, incident management, and data-processing services. You’ll work with a globally distributed team and collaborate across multiple technical groups in a hybrid setup with two in-office days per week.

Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Three+ years in application support or related environment.
Solid Linux/Unix understanding with log analysis and Bash or shell scripting.
Ability to troubleshoot across OS, storage, device, and network layers.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills for multi-source data.
Identify correlations and contribute to root‑cause investigations.
Experience with monitoring, incident‑management, change‑management tools.
Strong written and verbal communication; capable of explaining technical info clearly.
Organised and able to prioritise under pressure; willing to on-call weekends.

Responsibilities

Operate and support critical production applications in Linux/Unix environments.
Monitor real-time health, data flows, batch processing, and service availability.
Investigate alerts and production issues; restore service and escalate when needed.
Own operational tickets through investigation, resolution, and closure with accurate status updates.
Monitor end-to-end data-processing workflows and file transfers.
Execute startup/shutdown/recovery, scheduling, backup, and reprocessing procedures.
Perform approved production deployments and configuration changes.
Verify post‑deployment results and ensure no adverse effects on production.
Respond to incidents with timely incident timelines and RCA/remediation.
Troubleshoot performance and connectivity across OS, storage, device, and network layers.
Collaborate with Development, Infrastructure, Client Services, exchanges, and data vendors.
Perform data reprocessing with inputs checked and outputs validated.
Provide clear shift handovers and maintain runbooks and knowledge bases.
Identify automation opportunities to reduce alarms and improve monitoring.
Follow ITIL‑aligned procedures for incident, change, access control, and risk.
Participate in weekend on‑call and occasional out‑of‑hours work.
