Job summary

JS Careers is partnering with a well-established financial services organisation in Sydney to hire an Application Support Engineer. The role sits in a digital wealth technology environment and focuses on investigating production issues and maintaining critical applications.

You’ll work with engineering and product teams to keep services running, leveraging Java, cloud, APIs, microservices and monitoring tools. Regular business hours; no on-call roster except in exceptional incidents.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience in Application Support or similar technical support roles.
• Strong Java capability and ability to read production code.
• Experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, Sumo Logic, Dynatrace, AppDynamics or Datadog).
• Experience with SQL and data querying.
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS or Azure.

Responsibilities

Application Support Engineer | Java | SQL | Financial Services

We’re currently partnering with a well-established financial services organisation in Sydney on an Application Support Engineer opportunity.

The role sits within a digital wealth technology environment and would suit someone who enjoys investigating production issues, getting to the root cause of problems and working closely with engineering and product teams to keep critical applications running smoothly.

You’ll be supporting a live financial platform used across areas including accounts, payments, trading and reporting, with exposure to a modern technology environment across Java, cloud, APIs, microservices and monitoring tooling.

What you’ll be doing:

• Own application incidents from initial triage through to resolution
• Investigate production issues using logs, data and monitoring tools
• Read and troubleshoot Java-based applications
• Use SQL to investigate application and data issues
• Identify root causes rather than relying on short-term workarounds
• Work closely with engineering, product and wider support teams
• Improve support processes, diagnostic capability and automation
• Contribute to testing, environment support and technical documentation

What we’re looking for:

• 3+ years’ experience in Application Support, Production Support or a similar technical support environment
• Strong Java capability, particularly reading and troubleshooting production code
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Splunk, Sumo Logic, Dynatrace, AppDynamics or Datadog
• Working knowledge of SQL
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS or Azure, Kubernetes, data integration or automation would be highly regarded.

The role operates during regular business hours, with no on-call roster, outside of exceptional production incidents.
