Job summary

Anglo American's Capcoal CHPP in Middlemount, QLD, is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to drive metallurgical performance across the coal processing plant. You will contribute technical input to improve process capability, reduce variability, and optimise coal recovery and throughput.

You will identify and deliver projects with safety, volume and cost in mind, conduct root cause analysis, partner with suppliers, and own production data capture.

Qualifications

  • A recognised degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering.
  • Previous experience in an operating processing plant within the coal or metalliferous industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to work to support and collaborate effectively, and integrate as a valued member of production and maintenance teams.
  • Highly organised with strong analytical skills and a collaborative approach to problems solving.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with all levels of stakeholders to deliver CHPP goals.

  • Identify and deliver process improvements within CHPP.
  • Analyse and improve processing systems to minimise lost opportunity in coal recovery and production volume.
  • Critically review operating data to identify trends and optimisation opportunities.
  • Identify and deliver projects to optimise CHPP operation for safety, volume and cost.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis to reduce repeat incidents.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to innovate across coal seams.
  • Own production data capture and identify opportunities to improve operational systems.

In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in manganese, as well as copper exploration projects under way in North West Queensland. Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.

Job Description

This position providesa great opportunityfor an experienced Process Engineer to take the next step in their career. This role encompasses both the process, quality, and coallogisticsfunction reporting to theCHPP Superintendent.

TheCapcoalCHPP has an extremely motivated and competentteam,thatareable tobenefitfrom a person that can innovate andproblem solvein a team environment. As the process engineer, you willbe responsible forproviding technical input to the CHPP department toassistin achievingoptimalmetallurgical performance of the process plant.Capcoalprocesses many different seams, each with their own challenges to recovery,costand throughput, and offers a rewarding challenge.You will evaluate new and different technologies with a focus on reducing processing variability,optimizingcombustiblerecoveryand improving the process capability. In this role you will:

  • Contribute to the identification,developmentand delivery of process improvements within theCHPP;
  • Analyseand improve processing systems tominimiselost opportunity in coal recovery and productionvolume;
  • Critically review operating and technical data toidentifyany trends or non-compliance andprovidetechnical advice to rectify issues oroptimiseprocesses
  • Identifyand deliver projects tooptimiseCHPP operation in terms of Safety, Volume andCost;
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis on events to reduce risk of repeatevents;
  • Work with suppliers to innovate through the unique challenges of the various coalseams;
  • Have ownership for production data capture andidentifyopportunities to improvethe operationalsystems.
Qualifications
  • You will have arecogniseddegree in Metallurgy, ChemicalEngineeringor Process Engineering.
  • Previousexperience within an operating processing plant within the coal or metalliferous industry will be highlyadvantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to work to support and collaborateeffectively, andintegrate as a valued member of both production and maintenance teams.
  • You will be a highlyorganisedindividual with strong analytical skills and a collaborative approach to problems solving.
  • Your ability to build strong relationships with all levels of stakeholders in theorganisationwill enable you to effectively deliver support to achieve the overall goals of the CHPP.
