Job summary

Anglo American is seeking an experienced Electrical Process Technician for the CHPP at Dawson Mine in Queensland. You will perform daily checks, operate train loadouts, and optimize plant performance while collaborating with maintenance and production teams.

The role requires electrical trade credentials, CHPP experience, and a strong safety mindset. This is a full-time position with a 7-on, 7-off roster and camp or DIDO options available, including competitive remuneration and yearly bonus

Qualifications

  • Hold a relevant Electrical Trade licence.
  • CHPP qualifications/experience.
  • Experience in Coal Handling Processing Plant and mining environment.
  • Experience with Train Loadouts and Control Room operations.
  • HR Licence (desirable).
  • RIIVEH306 / RIISAM2121 certificates desirable.
  • Working at Heights, Confined Space, EWP, Forklift, Dogging and Rigging certificates desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Execute daily checks within the CHPP, Raw Coal, Product Yard and Overland Conveyor System and address breakdowns.
  • Operate the Train Loadout and Control Room Operations.
  • Optimise CHPP operations through quality workmanship.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Production teams and Contractors to improve reliability.
  • Inspect plant and equipment and report defects or future work.
  • Maintain high ownership of equipment performance and housekeeping.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement to enhance plant performance and safety procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with safety processes and Anglo American systems.
  • Contribute to a professional, safe, and collaborative team environment.

Job description

Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in Northwest Queensland and Western Australia.

Dawson is located at the southern end of the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, being just over a 2hrs drive west from either Rockhampton or Gladstone, or 4.5hrs drive north of the Darling Downs or South Burnett.

Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Electrical Process Technician within the CHPP at our Dawson Mine, on a full-time permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a safety-focused fixed-plant operator with an electrical background experienced in Coal Handing Processing Plants, to join the Production team at Dawson CHPP. Reporting to the Production Shift Supervisor, the CHPP Electrical Process Technician will be responsible for:

  • Execute operational tasks include performing daily checks within the CHPP, Raw Coal, Product Yard and Overland Conveying System, whilst attending to breakdowns, Process issues, and faults.
  • Operation of the Train Loadout and Control Room Operations.
  • Optimise Coal Handling and Preparation Plant operations through quality workmanship.
  • Collaborate and work effectively with other Maintenance and Production team members, including Contractors, to better manage equipment reliability and resolve problems impacting all areas.
  • Undertake thorough Inspections of all Plant and Equipment, reporting any defects or required future work.
  • Accept a high level of ownership around equipment operational performance.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping, attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement Programs that result in higher levels of Plant and Equipment performance and availability.
  • Maintain a high-level working knowledge of Safety Processes and Procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all Anglo American safety and operating systems and a commitment to working together as part of a capable, friendly and professional team to achieve business objectives.

You will have a positive and energetic attitude towards team involvement and contribution to the CHPP team. You will want to show exceptional communication and people skills, possessing knowledge and experience with an ability to build relationships and work in a team environment.

Qualifications
  • Hold a relevant Electrical Trade and license
  • Hold relevant CHPP Qualifications/ experience
  • Demonstrated experience in a Coal Handled Prep Plant and exposure to a Mining environment
  • Experience with Train Loadouts and Control Room operations
  • HR License holder (desirable)
  • RIIVEH306 Operate a Mine Service Vehicle or RIISAM2121 Service Mine Plant & Equipment (desirable)
  • Working at Heights, Confined Space, EWP, Forklift, Dogging and Rigging Certificates (desirable)
