Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network powering homes, businesses, and communities.

As Australia accelerates its energy transition, the work we do has never been more significant.

About the role

As a Principal Engineer within the Network Analysis team, the role is responsible for undertaking a specialist function in power quality assessments for new generator connections, power systems modelling (mainly in DIgSILENT PowerFactory), electrical data and software management, technical specification studies, and system performance analysis.

The Principal Engineer is an industry specialist in power system modelling and analysis, providing expert advice on power quality analysis, high voltage transmission network model development, technical specification studies, and system performance for Transgrid's network.

The role represents the Network Planning group within the industry in power system modelling and analysis, including the power quality area, and develops specialist technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders. The role also encompasses the development and implementation of modelling and analysis strategies and plans for longer-term network model development and works closely with industry stakeholders.

What you’ll do

Lead complex power quality assessments, power system modelling, and technical studies to support the planning, performance, and reliability of Transgrid's high-voltage network.

Provide specialist technical expertise in tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD and PSSE, delivering analysis, recommendations, and practical solutions for critical network challenges.

Manage and enhance network models, electrical data, and analysis methodologies, ensuring accurate, high-quality outputs that support strategic decision-making.

Take a hands-on role in delivering technical work while mentoring and guiding engineers across the team, sharing knowledge and building capability.

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including AEMO and industry partners, to develop technical reports, influence outcomes, and represent Transgrid in industry forums.

What you’ll bring

Tertiary qualifications at degree level in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

Strong experience in power system modelling and analysis and transmission planning.

Strong experience in and understanding of power quality assessments, including harmonic compliance assessments for new generator connections.

Solid experience in the analysis and development of electricity transmission systems and modelling of renewable energy generators, batteries, and synchronous machines, including expertise in the use of DIgSILENT PowerFactory and other software packages such as PSCAD and PSSE.

Extensive experience with programming languages such as Python.

Good understanding of synchronous and asynchronous generator operation and control.

Well-developed analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills, with an interest in the strategic and commercial aspects of delivering new technologies into the electricity system.

A creative and collaborative approach, with a passion for helping shape the electricity system of the future.
