Job summary

Transgrid in Sydney is seeking a Senior Project Manager to deliver project governance, risk, schedule and cost control across large capital infrastructure delivery.

You will report to the Project Delivery Manager, support engagement with the Executive Leadership Team, and collaborate with Lumea to implement the PMO framework.

The role offers scope to lead complex programs, maintain high performance teams and ensure compliance with financial and regulatory reporting obligations.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Project Management qualification desirable.
  • Extensive experience managing large capital HV substations and/or transmission lines.
  • Strong business and commercial acumen.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

About the Role

As a Senior Project Manager, you will deliver the project management function for Transgrid's Delivery Projects, in accordance with Transgrid policies and procedures spanning project governance and assurance, risk management, project controls (schedule and cost), and project tracking and reporting.

Reporting to the Project Delivery Manager, you will support their engagement with Transgrid's Executive Leadership Team, providing visibility of project status, performance and plans. You will be a critical link ensuring effective collaboration between the Transgrid business and Lumea, and you'll help implement the project management framework in coordination with Transgrid's PMO function.

  • Leading project elements to deliver on budget, quality, schedule and commercial outcomes.
  • Managing risk, quality, resources, communications, procurement and cost control across projects.
  • Supporting project planning and schedule management, including monitoring and analysis of schedule performance.
  • Supporting implementation of the project risk management framework, providing visibility and monitoring of project risks.
  • Establishing and providing advice, reports and submissions on project performance to the Project Delivery Manager.
  • Supporting coordination of third‑party interfaces and stakeholder engagement across workstreams.
  • Establishing and managing contracts, negotiating with contractors, and monitoring contractor performance.
  • Identifying and implementing innovative ways to deliver the program more efficiently and cost‑effectively.
  • Contributing to performance and development plans, and fostering a high‑performance team culture.
  • Ensuring compliance with financial, audit and regulatory reporting obligations.
About You

You are a commercially astute and collaborative leader with a proven ability to navigate the complexities of large capital infrastructure delivery. You demonstrate independence in problem‑solving and work prioritisation, know when to escalates, and bring a highly collaborative and decisive behaviour style with the ability to think outside the box and drive change. You bring exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and you thrive operating in a highly matrixed organisation.

You Will Bring
  • Tertiary qualification at degree level in engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • Project Management qualification at diploma, advanced diploma or degree level (desirable).
  • Extensive experience managing large capital High Voltage Substations and/or Transmission Lines projects.
  • High‑level business and commercial acumen.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in team management, resource management and leadership roles.
  • Experience in contract management and negotiation, directing field construction teams, and negotiating project scope, cost, schedule and risk with customers.
