Job summary

City of Moreton Bay is seeking a Principal Asset Accountant to lead the council’s asset accounting function, ensuring asset valuation, reporting and governance across a large portfolio. You will work with senior leaders, engineers and auditors to provide expert technical advice on complex asset accounting matters and drive strategic decisions.

Join City of Moreton Bay as a Principal Asset Accountant, and help shape and enhance our communities for today and tomorrow.

As aPrincipal Asset Accountant you will, lead and drive Council's asset accounting function, ensuring the integrity, valuation, reporting and governance of one of the region's largest and most diverse asset portfolios. Working closely with senior leaders, engineers, project managers, auditors and asset custodians, you'll provide expert technical advice on complex asset accounting matters and support strategic decision-making across the organisation.

• Lead the accounting, valuation and reporting of Council's asset portfolio, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and requirements.
• Oversee the integrity of the fixed asset register and support annual financial reporting and audit processes.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching and guidance to the asset accounting team.
• Drive continuous improvement and collaborate with stakeholders to support effective asset management and long-term financial sustainability.

About you

We're seeking an experienced accounting professional with a strong background in asset accounting within a large and complex organisation. You will bring strong technical expertise, sound judgement and the ability to translate complex financial information into practical business outcomes.

You are a collaborative leader who enjoys partnering with a broad range of stakeholders, driving continuous improvement and supporting high-quality financial reporting and governance.

You will bring;

• Demonstrated experience in asset accounting, including the application of relevant accounting standards and financial reporting requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex accounting matters and improve financial processes and controls.
• Proven leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience coaching teams and influencing outcomes across diverse business areas.
• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Commerce, with CPA or CA membership (or significant progress towards completion) highly regarded.
