Job summary

Trusted and Iconic Australian Enterprise is seeking a Senior GCP Cloud Engineer to join its Cloud Platforms team within Digital Technology & Data. The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, cloud automation, DevOps and platform engineering to modernise cloud platform capability.

You will design, build and implement secure, scalable GCP solutions, including landing zones and platform services, and act as a GCP SME guiding cloud engineers.

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior GCP Cloud Engineer to join its Cloud Platforms team within Digital Technology & Data.

This is a senior engineering role requiring strong Google Cloud Platform (GCP) expertise combining hands‑on engineering with technical leadership, cloud automation, DevOps and platform engineering. You will play a key role in modernising cloud platform capability and establish scalable, secure and self‑service cloud solutions.

Key Skills & Responsibilities

• Strong experience developing, engineering and managing cloud platform/software engineering solutions, with hands‑on expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Design, build and implement secure, scalable and reusable GCP Cloud Platform solutions, including cloud landing zones and platform services.
• Act as a GCP Subject Matter Expert, providing technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to cloud engineers and broader technology teams.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and Kubernetes.
• Proven DevOps, CI/CD and cloud automation experience, ideally using GitLab, with a strong focus on Infrastructure as Code and cloud‑native engineering practices.
• Strong experience with Terraform, YAML and JSON; experience with Golang is highly desirable. Exposure to Open Policy Agent (OPA) is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, networking, VPCs, security, identity/IAM and compliance.
• Develop and implement self‑service provisioning, reusable platform services and automated cloud solutions to improve developer experience and delivery efficiency.
• Lead the remediation of cloud security vulnerabilities and compliance issues, ensuring secure and resilient cloud platforms.
• Drive the adoption of Infrastructure as Code, automation, software engineering and cloud‑native practices across technology teams.
• Establish and promote cloud platform standards, processes and engineering best practice, helping to modernise and mature the cloud platform capability.
• Provide thought leadership and influence strategic technology decisions across GCP, AWS and Azure cloud platforms.
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to different audiences.
• Experience working in Agile environments and driving new ways of working across broader technology teams.
• Willingness to participate in a 24x7 support roster.
