Job summary

Change Recruitment is seeking a Senior GCP / Platform Engineer to lead a large-scale cloud and enterprise AI platform transformation in Melbourne. You will own design and delivery of GCP-based solutions, landing zones, security controls and FinOps, while building observable, governed cloud platforms for AI workloads.

You will work across cloud architecture, platform engineering and DevOps, applying Well-Architected principles and driving automation using Terraform and GCP CLI.

Qualifications

Overview

We are looking for a Senior GCP / Platform Engineer to join a large-scale cloud and emerging technology transformation within a complex, highly regulated enterprise.

The role will focus on two major areas:

• GCP Platform & Landing Zone Engineering – designing, uplifting and implementing core cloud platform capabilities.
• Enterprise AI Platform Engineering – helping build a secure, governed platform for enterprise AI and agent-based workloads, with a focus on observability, controls, evidence/auditability and FinOps.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering position requiring someone comfortable working across cloud architecture, platform engineering, DevOps and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and implement GCP solutions end-to-end across a large enterprise environment.
• Support the ongoing development and uplift of the GCP Cloud Landing Zone, covering both low-level design and hands-on engineering.
• Build and enhance cloud platform capabilities across networking, security, IAM, controls and environment segmentation.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform.
• Build, enhance and support CI/CD pipelines and broader DevOps automation.
• Use GCP CLI and scripting extensively to automate and manage cloud platform services.
• Apply cloud architecture and Well-Architected principles across platform design and implementation.
• Contribute to the development of an enterprise platform supporting AI and agent-based workloads.
• Implement appropriate security controls, governance, observability, audit/evidencing and FinOps capabilities across AI workloads.
• Work alongside architects, senior engineers and platform teams to turn high-level designs into production-ready solutions.
• Help improve engineering standards, automation and cloud capability across the wider technology environment.
• Strong senior-level cloud/platform engineering experience, including ownership of cloud solutions from design through to implementation.
• Experience working within large, complex enterprise environments.
• Strong Terraform and infrastructure-as-code capability.
• Strong understanding of GCP networking.
• Experience implementing cloud security and governance controls, including IAM and technologies such as VPC Service Controls.
• Strong scripting and coding skills.
• Practical experience working with and automating through GCP CLI.
• Solid cloud architecture knowledge and understanding of Well-Architected principles.
• Strong DevOps fundamentals across CI/CD, automation and infrastructure engineering.
• Ability to independently own and solve complex technical problems.

Highly Desirable

• Experience with Vertex AI, Gemini Enterprise or similar enterprise AI platforms.
• Understanding of security, governance and usage controls surrounding enterprise AI platforms.
• Exposure to AI/agent development platforms or tooling across GCP, AWS or Azure.
• Experience implementing enterprise security and governance controls around AI agents.
• Understanding of agentic AI platform patterns, including observability, auditability/evidencing and policy controls.
• Previous software engineering or backend development experience.
• Experience developing APIs or web-based applications using modern programming languages.
• Exposure to AI-assisted software engineering and development tooling.
• Cloud FinOps and cost-optimisation experience, ideally within GCP.
• Experience delivering cloud or AI platforms within complex, security-conscious or regulated organisations.

Ideal Background

The successful candidate will be a senior engineer who remains highly hands-on rather than operating solely at an architecture level.

You should be comfortable moving between cloud architecture, platform design and detailed implementation, with enough technical depth to operate in an environment significantly expanding its GCP capability.

Additional experience across enterprise AI platforms, agent-based systems, backend/API engineering or AI governance and controls would be highly valuable.
