Job summary

Westmead Hospital, part of NSW Health, is seeking a Pharmacy Assistant/Technician to support safe dispensing, medication distribution and pharmaceutical preparation in a busy hospital setting.

You will work with pharmacy colleagues to ensure accurate medicines supply, contribute to quality assurance and participate in sterile and non-sterile manufacturing as required, including after-hours shifts.

Qualifications

  • Nationally recognised pharmacy qualification.
  • Certificate II or III in Community Pharmacy (Grade 2).
  • Certificate III in Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support.
  • Certificate IV in Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork.
  • Willing to work late shifts and weekends.
  • Ability to participate in sterile manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, accurate and timely pharmaceutical services to patients at Westmead Hospital.
  • Assist dispensing and medication distribution across designated pharmacy areas.
  • Prepare pharmaceutical products by assisting with sterile and non-sterile manufacturing.
  • Maintain quality and compliance with medication management requirements.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
  • Contribute to team success through ongoing professional development and roster flexibility.

What you'll be doing

As a Pharmacy Assistant / Technician, you'll help deliver safe, accurate and timely pharmaceutical services to patients at Westmead Hospital. From dispensing and medication distribution to pharmaceutical preparation, you'll play an important role in supporting the effective delivery of hospital pharmacy services.

  • Deliver safe medication distribution by supporting the accurate handling and supply of medicines in accordance with legislation and hospital procedures.
  • Support dispensing and patient service across designated pharmacy areas, ensuring a responsive and patient-focused approach.
  • Prepare pharmaceutical products by assisting with sterile and non-sterile manufacturing in line with approved master formulations and departmental procedures.
  • Maintain quality and compliance by following medication management requirements and participating in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
  • Contribute to team success through ongoing professional development and flexibility to work overtime, weekends and on-call shifts as required by the departmental roster.

Qualifications: Applicants without a nationally recognised pharmacy qualification will be classified as Pharmacy Assistant Grade 1.
Pharmacy Assistant Grade 2 - Certificate II or III in Community Pharmacy provided by Pharmacy Guild/PSA.
Pharmacy Technician Grade 1 – Certificate III in Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support.
Pharmacy Technician Grade 2 - Certificate IV in Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support.

Selection Criteria:
  • Demonstrated good communication skills.
  • Demonstrated satisfactory pharmacy dispensing experience in Australia (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise large workload and have good time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Willing and able to participate in sterile (including cytotoxic) manufacturing.
  • Must be willing and able to work late shifts and overtime on weekends as required.
