Job summary

Westmead Hospital, part of Western Sydney Local Health District, is seeking a Pharmacy Assistant/Technician to deliver safe, accurate pharmaceutical services to patients. You will assist with dispensing, medication distribution and pharmaceutical preparation within a busy hospital environment.

You will work in a patient‑focused setting, supporting accuracy, teamwork and quality, and you may participate in sterile manufacturing and cytotoxic processes as required by the department’s roster.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated good communication skills.
• Satisfactory pharmacy dispensing experience in Australia or equivalent.
• Ability to prioritise large workload and manage time effectively.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Willingness to participate in sterile manufacturing including cytotoxic processes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe medication distribution by supporting accurate handling and supply of medicines per legislation and hospital procedures.
• Support dispensing and patient service across designated pharmacy areas with a patient‑focused approach.
• Prepare pharmaceutical products by assisting sterile and non‑sterile manufacturing per approved master formulations.
• Maintain quality and compliance by following medication management requirements and contributing to quality assurance.
• Be flexible to work overtime, weekends and on‑call shifts as rostered.

What you’ll be doing

As a Pharmacy Assistant / Technician, you’ll help deliver safe, accurate and timely pharmaceutical services to patients at Westmead Hospital. From dispensing and medication distribution to pharmaceutical preparation, you’ll play an important role in supporting the effective delivery of hospital pharmacy services.

• Deliver safe medication distribution by supporting the accurate handling and supply of medicines in accordance with legislation and hospital procedures.
• Support dispensing and patient service across designated pharmacy areas, ensuring a responsive and patient-focused approach.
• Prepare pharmaceutical products by assisting with sterile and non-sterile manufacturing in line with approved master formulations and departmental procedures.
• Maintain quality and compliance by following medication management requirements and participating in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
• Contribute to team success through ongoing professional development and flexibility to work overtime, weekends and on-call shifts as required by the departmental roster.

Qualifications: Applicants without a nationally recognised pharmacy qualification will be classified as Pharmacy Assistant Grade 1.
Pharmacy Assistant Grade 2 - Certificate II or III in Community Pharmacy provided by Pharmacy Guild/PSA.
Pharmacy Technician Grade 1 – Certificate III in Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support.
Pharmacy Technician Grade 2 - Certificate IV in Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support.

Selection Criteria

• Demonstrated good communication skills.
• Demonstrated satisfactory pharmacy dispensing experience in Australia (or equivalent).
• Demonstrated ability to prioritise large workload and have good time management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Willing and able to participate in sterile (including cytotoxic) manufacturing.
• Must be willing and able to work late shifts and overtime on weekends as required.
