Job summary

Specsavers Merrylands is seeking a Full time Optical Assistant to join our team in Merrylands, Sydney, NSW. You will support dispensing operations, greet customers, and help them choose frames and lenses while maintaining high service standards.

The role requires strong communication, organisational skills, reliability, and flexibility to work weekends. Prior optical or eyewear knowledge is desirable. Competitive pay and staff discounts are offered.

Qualifications

• Previous retail experience, ideally in optical retail or a customer-facing environment.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with customers and colleagues.
• Excellent organisational abilities and attention to detail when processing transactions and managing inventory.
• Reliability and punctuality, with the ability to work flexibly including weekends and public holidays as required.
• Proficiency with computerised point-of-sale systems and basic IT skills.
• Desirable: Previous experience in optical dispensing or knowledge of eyewear, lenses and prescriptions.

Responsibilities

• Greeting customers warmly and assisting in selecting frames and lenses.
• Processing transactions accurately using POS systems; handling cash and digital payments.
• Assisting dispensing opticians with frame fitting and lens adjustments.
• Maintaining customer records and scheduling appointments.
• Stocking shelves and managing inventory to keep displays appealing.
