Job summary

Sims Limited in Rocklea (Brisbane) is seeking a motivated Yard hand to join our recycling operations team. This hands-on role suits someone who enjoys outdoor work and is safety-focused, operating a range of mobile plant equipment, including forklifts.

You will learn on-site, process recyclable materials, and support efficient yard operations while delivering friendly service to customers and transport operators.

Qualifications

• Forklift licence is beneficial but not required.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team.
• Reliable, hardworking, and self-motivated attitude.
• Good communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
• Experience in recycling, scrap metal, waste or resource recovery is advantageous.

We're looking for a motivated and experienced Yard hand to join our recycling operations team in Rocklea. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with machinery, thrives in an outdoor environment, and takes pride in maintaining safe and efficient operations.

Reporting to the Yard Manager, you'll be responsible for operating a range of mobile equipment, processing recyclable materials, and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the site. Whether you're loading trucks, sorting metals, or assisting customers, you'll play an important role in helping recover valuable resources and supporting sustainable industry practices.

What you’ll be doing:

• Learning to operate forklifts, excavators, and other mobile plant equipment safely and effectively, we will train onsite
• Receiving, processing, and dispatching recyclable materials.
• Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe work environment.
• Following all workplace health, safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
• Identifying hazards and contributing to a strong safety culture.
• Assisting with general yard duties and operational activities as required.
• Providing professional and friendly service to customers, suppliers, and transport operators.

What we are looking for:

• Current Forklift Licence beneficial but not required
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
• Reliable, hardworking, and self-motivated attitude.
• Good communication skills and customer-focused approach.
• Experience within the recycling, scrap metal, waste, or resource recovery industries is advantageous but not essential.
