Job summary

Aurizon is recruiting for a Trainee Driver to join the Perth-based Kwinana rail operations team. The role offers a development path toward becoming a qualified locomotive driver, with opportunities to progress from Operational Maintainer ranks.

You will control train movements, conduct brake tests, inspect rolling stock, and support locomotive maintenance while adapting to day or night shifts and weekend work as required.

Qualifications

• C Class Drivers Licence required.
• Shunt qualification required.
• Strong commitment to safety.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Good problem solving and communication skills.
• Willing to work day and night shifts, including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Control the movement of trains and follow safety instructions.
• Home station in Kwinana depot; may work at Forrestfield as needed.
• Inspect for faults, repair and maintain rolling stock.
• Support maintenance of locomotives and related equipment.
• Conduct brake testing of trains.
• Communicate with depot staff, clients and control via radio or in person.
• Undertake shunting and marshalling of trains.
• Perform other duties as required.

We are looking for safety-conscious individuals with the relevant shunt qualifications to join our Perth based Kwinana rail operations team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to progress towards becoming a qualified Locomotive Driver, as our Trainee Driver positions are filled by top performers from our Operational Maintainer ranks. • Control the movement of trains and carry out relevant instructions always maintaining safety
• Home station in Kwinana rail operations depot, but can also be rostered to work at the Forrestfield operations as required
• Inspect for faults, repair, service and maintain rollingstock
• Support maintenance of locomotives, ancillary vehicles, machines, and equipment
• Conduct brake testing of trains
• Effectively communicate with other depot personnel as well as clients and operational staff including train control face to face and via two-way radio
• Undertake shunting and marshalling of trains
• Other duties as requested

About you

• C Class Drivers Licence (mandatory)

• A willingness to work day & night shift (up to 12hr shifts) and including weekend work as required
