Job summary

Aurizon is seeking a Freight Operator (Shunter) to join our rail operations team. You will perform shunting, yard duties and train readiness checks while maintaining high safety and service standards.

The role requires a mandatory Shunt Qualification, a current C Class Manual Driver’s Licence and the flexibility to work a 24/7 roster with up to 12-hour shifts. You will collaborate closely with depot personnel to deliver reliable, customer-focused freight services.

Qualifications

• Shunt Qualification is mandatory.
• C Class Manual Driver’s Licence is required.
• Willingness to work a 24/7 roster with shifts up to 12 hours.
• Strong commitment to safety and problem-solving.
• Excellent communication and teamwork with depot personnel.

Responsibilities

• Perform shunting and yard duties including cleaning.
• Maintain and service equipment as needed.
• Examine trains and certify departure readiness; conduct brake tests.
• Safely unload customer products and manage site housekeeping.
• Communicate effectively with depot personnel face-to-face and by radio.

Job description

As a Freight Operator (Shunter), you will be expected to be available to complete the following Key responsibilities Safely, Competently and as an engaged employee:

• Maintenance and Servicing
• Provisioning and House Keeping
• Performing shunting and yard duties (including cleaning)
• Examining and certifying trains for departure readiness
• Conducting brake tests
• Safely unloading customer products
• Communicating effectively with depot personnel (face-to-face and via two-way radio)
