Job summary

Aurizon is seeking a locomotive operator in Melbourne to manage train movements, perform brake tests, and ensure trains depart safely and on time. The role requires strong safety adherence and experience with freight/heavy haul locomotives. You will work on a 24/7 roster within Aurizon's safety framework.

Qualifications

• Available to work a 24/7 shift roster.
• Experience in freight or heavy haulage locomotive driving.
• Experience with Victoria Safe Working systems is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Operate locomotives including shunting and marshalling.
• Examine and certify trains as ready for departure.
• Maintain a high level of on-time running.
• Prepare and conduct brake testing on locomotives.
• Provide high quality customer service to enable Aurizon to meet its objectives.

About the role:

• Operation of locomotives including shunting and marshalling.
• Examine and certify trains as ready for departure.
• Work in accordance with Aurizon's safety and operational standards and procedures.
• Maintain a high level of on-time running.
• Prepare and conduct brake testing on locomotives.
• Provide high quality customer service to enable Aurizon to meet its set business objectives.

About you:

• Strong commitment to safety and Aurizon’s safety strategy “I Know Safe, I Choose Safe”.
• Must be available to work a 24/7 shift roster.
• Experience in Victoria Safe Working systems an advantage.
• Extensive freight and/or heavy haulage locomotive driving experience.
• A Certificate IV in Rail Operations (or equivalent).
