Job summary

Pantoro Gold is seeking an Open Pit Manager to lead the surface mining operation at the Norseman Gold Project in Western Australia. You will direct the open pit team, manage the mining contractor relationship and ensure production, safety and compliance align with Pantoro’s goals.

Reporting to Mining Manager, you will drive short- and medium-term planning, coordinate with Technical Services and operations, and foster a strong safety culture across site and contractor teams.

Qualifications

• Extensive open pit mining experience, ideally in gold or hard rock.
• Proven track record leading surface mining teams.
• Strong knowledge of WA mining legislation and safety practices.
• Ability to manage contractor performance and stakeholder relationships.
• Excellent organisational and planning skills.
• Strong communication from pit to executive level.

Job description

Lead the surface mining operation and help shape the next phase of Pantoro’s growth.

Pantoro is an Australian gold producer with a clear long term growth strategy and an exciting pipeline of opportunities across the Norseman Gold Project.

As our operations continue to develop, we are seeking an experienced Open Pit Manager to lead our surface mining function and play a key role in delivering safe, efficient and sustainable production across our open pit operations.

About the Role

Reporting into the Mining Manager, the Open Pit Manager will take ownership of Pantoro’s surface mining activities across the Norseman Gold Project.

You will lead the Pantoro surface mining team while developing a strong and highly effective working relationship with our mining contractor. You will ensure contractor performance, mine planning, production priorities, safety requirements and business objectives remain aligned.

This is a role that requires visibility in the field, strong operational judgement and the ability to bring multiple stakeholders together around clear priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Pantoro’s surface mining team and provide clear operational direction across open pit activities.
• Maintain oversight of safe, efficient and productive open pit mining operations.
• Build and maintain a highly effective working relationship with the open pit mining contractor.
• Actively manage contractor performance against agreed production, safety, cost and operational expectations.
• Coordinate closely with Technical Services, Geology, Survey, Processing, Maintenance, Projects and other operational functions.
• Maintain strong short and medium-term planning discipline and ensure emerging operational risks are identified and addressed.
• Monitor mining performance, productivity, costs and physicals and drive corrective actions where required.
• Ensure compliance with statutory obligations, site standards and Pantoro's safety management systems.

About You

You are an experienced open pit mining professional who understands that successful mining leadership is as much about people, planning and relationships as it is about tonnes moved.

You are highly organised, comfortable managing competing operational priorities and able to maintain a clear view of both immediate production requirements and longer term objectives.

Importantly, you know how to work successfully in a contractor mining environment, establishing clear expectations, maintaining accountability and building a productive partnership.

You will bring:

• WA Quarry Manager's Certificate of Competency.
• Significant operational experience within open pit mining, ideally within gold or a similar hard rock environment.
• Demonstrated experience leading surface mining teams and operations.
• Strong contractor management and stakeholder engagement capability.
• Strong knowledge of WA mining legislation, statutory obligations and contemporary safety management practices.
• Excellent organisational, planning and prioritisation skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively from the pit through to senior management.
• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
