Job summary

John Holland is seeking a Safety Adviser for the North East Link project in Melbourne. The role focuses on implementing the safety plan, leading a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with legislation, codes and client requirements on a major on-site program.

You will conduct risk assessments, oversee safety governance activities, and provide expert safety advice to project teams, while coordinating with stakeholders to ensure timely safety outcomes.

Qualifications

• Diploma in WHS (or related discipline) and Certificate IV in OHS (or equivalent).
• Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40122).
• Lead Auditor, ICAM Investigation, Return to Work and Behaviour-Based Safety certifications.
• Current First Aid, CPR, Mental Health First Aid and High Risk Work competencies (Confined Space and Working at Heights).
• Current Driver’s Licence.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain the Project Safety Plan, Emergency Response & Management Plan, and associated safety systems.
• Lead and promote a strong safety culture with visible leadership and continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, codes of practice, client requirements and safety policies.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop risk control strategies across activities.
• Lead safety governance activities including inspections, audits, and safety committees.
• Prepare and continuously improve safety management systems, plans, and documentation.
• Investigate, manage and report safety incidents with corrective actions.
• Provide expert safety advice, coaching, and support to project teams, including attendance at meetings.
• Build relationships with clients, subcontractors, regulatory authorities and stakeholders.
• Support project delivery with cross-functional collaboration and weekend/night shift rosters for safety coverage.
