Job summary

John Holland is seeking an experienced HSEQ Advisor for a rail project based in Seven Hills, Sydney. You will provide expert safety and environmental guidance, conduct site inspections and audits, and help implement corrective actions to protect workers and communities.

The role emphasizes risk assessment, SWMS development, and ongoing safety documentation in a multi-discipline environment. Rail/transport experience is desirable, with strong communication and Office software skills expected.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
• Cert IV in Training & Assessment or equivalent.
• Cert IV in Environmental Management.
• Experience in Rail/Transport industry desirable.
• Interpersonal skills essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert HSEQ advice to ensure compliance with John Holland, Client, and Regulatory requirements.
• Implement and maintain safety inspections and audit schedules.
• Carry out site safety inspections and support action on corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Projects to improve John Holland safety systems.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve operational performance.
• Assist in developing safety documentation such as SWMS and work plans.
• Lead hazard analysis and risk assessment activities in a multi-discipline environment.
• Monitor regulatory changes and ensure timely compliance.

Are you up for the challenge?

We are currently looking for an experienced HSEQ Advisor to join our team, based in Seven Hills. The successful candidate will have a high level of understanding in all areas of Health, Safety and Environment. You will be responsible for providing HSE advice to a challenging and exciting Project within our rail team and deliver initiatives that continue to improve the John Holland HSE culture.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

• Providing expert advice to ensure compliance with John Holland, Client, and Regulatory requirements
• Implementing and maintaining company safety inspections and audit schedules
• Carrying out site safety inspections and providing support to action corrective actions
• Liaising with Projects to gain insights into how to improve John Holland systems
• Developing and implementing strategies that improve operational performance.
• Providing support to develop safety documentation such as SWMS and work plans
• Planning and facilitating hazard analysis and risk assessment activities in a multi-discipline work environment
• Reviewing and implementing legislative and regulatory changes as required
• Management of incident reporting, and closing out non-compliance issues in a timely and efficient manner

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

• Excellent interpersonal skills are a must as well as relevant experience in a safety role is essential.
• Experience in the Rail and Transport industry is desirable
• A Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
• Knowledge developing and implementing Safety Management Systems and Safety Management Tools is essential
• Cert IV in Training & Assessment or equivalent
• Cert IV in Environmental Management
• Investigation Qualification (ICAM or TapRoot desirable)
• Lead Auditor Qualification desirable
• Occupational First Aid Qualification
• The ability to interpret project related documents, prepare reports and monitor compliance documentation is essential
• A high level of experience with Microsoft Office and Safety systems is essential
