Job summary

Explore & Develop Newcastle East is an owner-operated early childhood service focused on safe, confident, and connected learning experiences for children from birth to five years. Our team is supported daily by an Operations Manager and leadership, ensuring strong relationships with families and the local community.

We provide high-quality education and care guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, with a play-based approach responsive to each child’s interests and development.

Qualifications

• ACECQA recognised degree required.
• Leadership experience in an early childhood setting.
• Current First Aid, Anaphylaxis and Emergency Asthma Training on ACECQA list.
• Clear NSW Working with Children Check.
• Child Protection Training approved by NSW Regulatory Authority.
• Knowledge of National Quality Standard and Assessment Rating Process.
• Proficiency with Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage an early childhood service in line with NQF and regulations.
• Ensure programs follow Early Years Learning Framework and meet developmental needs.
• Maintain child safety, supervision and appropriate discipline practices.
• Ensure educator qualifications and staffing ratios.
• Conduct risk assessments and manage health and hygiene practices.
• Develop and review service policies in collaboration with families and staff.
• Maintain accurate developmental records and attendance.
• Build partnerships with families and identify child-specific needs.
• Oversee duty rosters, enrolments, and service accounts.
• Drive ongoing Quality Improvement Plan with team and community.

Job description

The Nominated Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing an early childhood education and care service in accordance with the National Quality Framework and Education and Care Services National Regulations. The role requires ensuring educational programs are delivered based on an approved learning framework, maintaining child safety and wellbeing, managing staffing arrangements, and driving continuous service improvement through quality planning and collaborative leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure educational programs are based on and delivered in accordance with the Early Years Learning Framework, considering developmental needs, interests, and experiences of each child
• Ensure all children are adequately supervised, protected from harm and hazards, and not subject to inappropriate discipline
• Ensure child to educator ratios are met and each Educator meets relevant qualification requirements
• Manage health and hygiene practices, medication administration, and notification of emergency services when medical attention is required
• Conduct risk assessments before excursions and ensure risk management practices are understood and adhered to across the team
• Develop, review and promote Service policies and procedures in collaboration with all employees and families
• Maintain accurate records including developmental records, individual observations, eating and sleeping patterns, medication administration, and attendance
• Establish partnerships with families to identify specific needs and develop effective programs in consultation with Educators
• Carry out administrative duties including duty rosters, training, service accounts, attendance and enrolments, building security, filing and record keeping
• Be a driver in the development and ongoing review of the Service's Quality Improvement Plan, ensuring a collaborative approach with contributions from all service employees, families and the community

About you

• ACECQA Recognised Early Childhood Teaching Degree
• Previous experience in a leadership role
• Current First Aid Certificate, Anaphylaxis Management Training and Emergency Asthma Management Training (must be on ACECQA's published list of approved qualifications)
• Clear NSW Working with Children Check
• Child Protection Training Course approved by the NSW Regulatory Authority
• Knowledge and understanding of Commonwealth, State and Local Government functions and legislation relating to children's services and licensing requirements
• Knowledge, understanding and experience in working with the National Quality Standard and the Assessment Rating Process
• Proficiency with computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel
• Model good professional and ethical practice in work with children, families and other employees
• Demonstrate initiative, reliability, trustworthiness, and ability to work unsupervised
• Maintain confidentiality at all times and comply with all Child Protection Legislation and requirements
