Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance seeks an experienced Property Underwriter to join the Mining and Energy focus in Sydney. You will develop and expand new business opportunities through brokers and clients, applying underwriting acumen to select sound risks while maintaining profitability.

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years of Energy/Mining/Property underwriting, broker relationships, and the ability to learn new products.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Energy, Mining and/or Property underwriting experience.
• Existing broker and customer relationships, or ability to develop them quickly.
• Experience with policy forms, including broker manuscripts.
• Experience marketing to specialised brokers.
• Strong collaboration and team building skills.
• Strong communication, negotiation and presentation experience.
• Degree or equivalent education, and/or strong insurance qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Manage a profitable property book focusing on Mining and Energy accounts.
• Establish and expand broker and customer relationships for new and renewal business.
• Prequalify accounts and select risks within the company risk appetite.
• Underwrite assigned accounts with proper analysis and documentation.
• Underwrite complex risks and develop creative solutions for partners.
• Work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and maintain underwriting integrity.
• Collaborate with in-house claims team to ensure a positive customer experience.
