Kennedy Reid is seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter for commercial property risks in a hybrid, Sydney-based role. You will lead underwriting of new and renewal business, providing technical leadership and mentoring juniors within a collaborative team.

Candidate must have 5+ years in property underwriting, strong analytical skills, and a solid grasp of the Australian insurance market. The role offers flexible/hybrid arrangements and a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial property underwriting experience.
• Advanced knowledge of property underwriting principles, processes and guidelines.
• Strong understanding of the Australian insurance market and broker distribution channels.
• Proven experience underwriting complex property risks within delegated authority.
• Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
• Excellent organisational, prioritisation and time management capabilities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel/Word/Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal business in line with guidelines and authorities.
• Apply underwriting strategies across targeted industries to support growth.
• Provide technical underwriting expertise on risk assessment, terms and pricing.
• Build and maintain relationships with brokers to generate new business.
• Collaborate across product lines to strengthen broker partnerships.
• Mentor junior underwriters and act as a technical referral point.
• Maintain relationships with capacity providers and stakeholders.
• Monitor portfolio performance, market trends and emerging risks.
