Qualifications

• Strong understanding of the Australian insurance market and broker distribution channels.

• Excellent organisational, prioritisation and time management capabilities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel/Word/Outlook).

My client is hiring an experienced Senior Underwriter to join a highly regarded underwriting team focused on commercial property risks. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong underwriting professional who enjoys building broker relationships, assessing complex risks, and contributing to profitable portfolio growth.

Working within a collaborative and high-performing environment, you will play a key role in underwriting new and renewal business while providing technical leadership and support across the broader team.

The Role

As a Senior Underwriter, your responsibilities will include:

• Applying underwriting strategies across targeted industries and occupations to support profitable growth.
• Assessing and underwriting new business and renewal opportunities in line with underwriting guidelines and delegated authorities.
• Providing technical underwriting expertise, including risk assessment, coverage analysis, policy terms, conditions and pricing recommendations.
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with insurance brokers to generate new business opportunities and maximise policy retention.
• Collaborating with colleagues across product lines to strengthen broker partnerships and identify growth opportunities.
• Acting as a technical referral point and mentor for junior underwriters and team members.
• Maintaining effective relationships with capacity providers and key stakeholders.
• Monitoring portfolio performance, market trends and emerging risks to support informed underwriting decisions.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in commercial property underwriting.
• Advanced knowledge of property underwriting principles, processes, systems and guidelines.
• A strong understanding of the Australian insurance market and broker distribution channels.
• Proven experience underwriting complex property risks within delegated authority limits.
• Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
• Excellent organisational, prioritisation and time management capabilities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
