Davies Stewart is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead end-to-end design, validation, and delivery of specialised mechanical systems for mining and industrial applications from Adelaide, SA. You will work across sales, engineering, and operations to ensure technically compliant, robust solutions.

The role requires 7+ years in mechanical design, proficiency in SolidWorks, and capability in FEA/CFD simulations, with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and ISO 9001.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 7+ years of professional mechanical design experience.
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD; capable of FEA & CFD simulations.
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes, DFM principles, and AS/ISO standards (ISO 9001).
• Comfortable communicating with mining clients and presenting tailored technical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with sales teams and clients to gather design requirements, review feasibility, and generate specifications, drawings, and datasheets.
• Prepare project-specific engineering documentation including BOMs, detailed drawings, part specs, and engineering change notices.
• Conduct structural, fluid flow, and pressure analyses; perform FEA/CFD to optimise designs for harsh environments.
• Participate in PPI projects, kaizen events, and RCCM 5-Whys problem-solving initiatives.
• Adhere to OHS policies and SQDC culture across daily operations.

This customer-facing role combines hands-on mechanical design expertise with full lifecycle project execution. The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager within the Analytical Instruments Group, you will own the end-to-end design, validation, and delivery of specialised mechanical systems.

• Collaborate with sales teams and clients to gather design requirements, review sales proposals for technical feasibility, and generate specifications, drawings, and data sheets.
• Prepare project-specific engineering documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), detailed drawings, part specifications, and engineering change notices.
• Conduct engineering calculations—covering structural, fluid flow, and pressure analysis—alongside FEA and CFD simulations to optimise designs for harsh environments.
• Actively participate in Practical Process Improvement (PPI) projects, kaizen events, and Root-Cause Counter-Measure (RCCM) 5-whys problem-solving initiatives.
• Adhere strictly to OHS policies and embrace the SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) culture across daily operations.

About You

You are an experienced, driven mechanical engineer who pairs rigorous analytical capability with strong communication skills and a passion for industrial design.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• A minimum of 7 years of professional work experience in a related mechanical design engineering role.
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD platforms, alongside capability in performing FEA (stress, vibration) and CFD (flow path, erosion) simulations.
• Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing processes, DFM principles, and relevant AS/ISO standards (including ISO 9001).
• Comfortable communicating directly with mining clients, understanding complex needs, and presenting tailored technical solutions.
