Job summary

St Carthage's Cathedral Parish in Lismore NSW is seeking a motivated Maintenance Worker for a casual role, up to ~30 hours per week. You will join our maintenance and property services team, taking pride in grounds maintenance, gardening and general property upkeep across parish sites.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with landscaping, supervision of small teams, and a practical, solutions‑focused approach while adhering to WHS practices.

Qualifications

• Experience in gardening, grounds maintenance, property maintenance, landscaping, handyman services or a similar field.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Strong work ethic with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
• Current NSW Driver's Licence.
• Respect for the mission and values of the Catholic Church.
• Qualifications or formal training in horticulture, landscaping, parks and gardens, turf management or related discipline.
• Previous experience coordinating staff activities and day‑to‑day work activities across multiple job sites.
• Experience mentoring, supporting or training new team members.
• Experience operating a variety of grounds maintenance equipment and machinery.
• Basic computer skills and experience using workplace technology.
• Knowledge of irrigation systems, plant health and seasonal garden maintenance.

Responsibilities

Casual, up to approx. 30 hours per week | Based in Lismore/Goonellabah

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Maintenance Worker to join our maintenance and property services team. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining attractive grounds and facilities, and enjoys contributing to meaningful community outcomes.

This position would particularly suit a candidate with experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, property maintenance or landscaping. We will prioritise applications from individuals who have previously supervised small teams, coordinated work activities, mentored others, and are looking for a healthier work-life balance. Applicants with horticultural knowledge and qualifications will be highly regarded.

About the role

Reporting to the Assets & Facilities Manager, you will work across several parish sites, helping maintain our buildings, grounds and outdoor spaces to a high standard. No two days are the same, with responsibilities spanning grounds maintenance, gardening, general repairs and property upkeep.

Key responsibilities include:

Grounds maintenance including; mowing, pruning, hedging, weeding and garden care.

Maintaining lawns, gardens, pathways and outdoor spaces to a high standard.

Carrying out general maintenance, handyman tasks and minor property repairs.

Operating and maintaining gardening and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
