Job summary

Rockmount is recruiting for a workshop-based role in Smithfield, NSW. Start as casual with a pathway to permanent employment, earning $34/hr with potential to $38/hr for experienced slitting/sheeting operators. The role runs Monday to Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm, with optional weekend overtime.

You will read job tickets, set up machines, measure widths, switch materials, and perform editing checks to minimise waste. Training provided.

Job description

Rockmount is recruiting on behalf of a family-owned paper and film converting business based in Smithfield, cutting large reels of material down into smaller reels and sheets for their customers. This is a Temp to Perm opportunity — you'll start on assignment through Rockmount, with a genuine pathway to permanent employment with our client. It's steady, air-conditioned, workshop-based work with plenty of variety day to day.

What you'll be doing:

Reading job tickets carefully and following every customer specification

Setting up machines by hand and measuring slit widths accurately — some as fine as 9mm

Handling job changes throughout the day, switching between materials like foil, plastic film, and printed paper

Running "editing" jobs — passing material through the machine to find and remove bad product, taping the good product together and running on

Keeping waste to a minimum, as some customers' stock is very expensive

What you'll need:

Great attention to detail — comfortable reading job tickets closely and double-checking your own work

Good eyesight for accurate measuring and inspecting (glasses are fine, you'll just need to measure accurately)

Confidence with measuring tools, or a quick learner if you're not there yet

A calm, thoughtful approach — someone who doesn't cut corners under pressure
