Job summary

Western Power is offering a four-year Lineworker Apprenticeship in Merredin, Western Australia. You’ll learn on-site with experienced tradespeople while aiming for a National Certificate III in ESI – Distribution Overhead. The program combines practical training, structured coursework and assessments.

Expect on-the-job learning, rotations across locations, and a focus on safety, reliability, and decarbonisation as WA builds its renewable energy future.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older and have a valid C class driver’s license.
• Completion of Year 10 with English and Maths will be considered.
• Be physically fit and able to lift heavy equipment.
• Willingness to undergo pre-employment medical assessment and high-risk licensing.
• Willing to work shifts including a 75-hour fortnight and travel to remote locations.

Responsibilities

• Work towards a Nationally recognised Certificate III in ESI – Distribution Overhead.
• Learn installation, maintenance and inspection of poles, structures and hardware.
• On-the-job learning with qualified tradespeople across WA.

What Does aLineworkerApprentice Do?

As aLineworkerApprentice, you will work towards obtaining a Nationally recognised Certificate III in ESI – Distribution Overhead (UET30621).

Alongside experienced tradespeople while developing the technical knowledge and practical skillsrequiredto become a qualified tradesperson:

Gain knowledge in areas such as installation, maintenance and inspection of poles,structuresand associated hardware

Nominal term for this qualification is 48 months

What makes me a suitable candidate for Western Power apprenticeships?

Must be 18 years or older to apply for these positions

Have obtained a “C” classdriverslicense

Have completed minimum of Year 10 secondary education with English and Mathematics skills (depending on your apprenticeship)

Be physically fit and carry the ability to lift heavy equipment

Be willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment

Be willing to/have obtained a range of high-risk licensing

Be willing to work shift consisting of a 75-hour fortnight (overtime may be applicable, roster days off applicable)

Be willing to work and travel in remote locations pending on your work rotations, including travelling to attend TAFE and external training courses

The ability to interpret complex instructions,designsand diagrams

The ability tooperatelarge equipment such as elevated work platforms and hydraulic drills
