Job summary

Western Power invites applications for a Cable Jointer Apprentice in Forrestdale and Pinjarra. This four‑year program provides on‑the‑job learning with qualified tradespeople, plus formal training to earn a nationally recognised trade qualification in electrical distribution.

You will gain hands‑on experience in underground cables, and be mentored to develop the skills needed to become a tradesperson in WA’s evolving energy network.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older to apply.
• Have obtained a C class driver's licence.
• Have completed Year 10 with English and Maths skills.
• Be physically fit and able to lift heavy equipment.
• Willing to complete pre-employment medical assessment.
• Willing to obtain high‑risk licenses.
• Willing to work a 75‑hour fortnight (overtime possible).
• Willing to travel to remote locations for rotations.

Responsibilities

• Work toward obtaining a Nationally recognised Certificate III in ESI - Distribution Underground (UET30821).
• Work alongside experienced tradespeople to develop technical knowledge and practical skills.
• Gain knowledge in laying, installation and maintenance of low and high voltage underground cables and equipment.

What Does a Cable Jointer Apprentice Do?

As a Cable Jointer Apprentice, you will work towards obtaining a Nationally recognised Certificate III in ESI - Distribution Underground (UET30821).

You will work alongside experienced tradespeople while developing the technical knowledge and practical skills required to become a qualified tradesperson:

• Gain knowledge in the laying, installation and maintenance of low and high voltage underground electrical cables and equipment
• Nominal term for this qualification is 48 months

What makes me a suitable candidate for Western Power apprenticeships?

Due to the nature of these apprenticeships. It is highly desirable for candidates to have obtained Cert II in Engineering foundations | Electrotechnology prior to applying.

• Must be 18 years or older to apply for these positions
• Have obtained a "C" class drivers licence
• Have completed minimum of Year 10 secondary education with English and Mathematics skills (depending on your apprenticeship)
• Be physically fit and carry the ability to lift heavy equipment
• Be willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
• Be willing to/have obtained a range of high-risk licensing
• Be willing to work shift consisting of a 75-hour fortnight (overtime may be applicable, roster days off applicable)
• Be willing to work and travel in remote locations pending on your work rotations, including travelling to attend TAFE and external training courses
• The ability to interpret complex instructions, designs and diagrams
• The ability to operate large equipment such as elevated work platforms and hydraulic drills

Location Flexibility and Future Employment
