Job summary

Western Power in Geraldton offers a hands‑on Lineworker Apprenticeship designed to develop practical skills for a safer, smarter electricity network. You will learn on the job while studying for a Nationally recognised trade qualification and work with skilled tradespeople across WA.

The program runs over four years with on‑the‑job learning, technical training and assessments to support your growth within WA’s energy infrastructure and community needs.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older to apply.
• Have a Class C driver’s licence.
• Completed Year 10 with English and Mathematics skills.
• Be physically fit to lift heavy equipment.
• Willing to undergo a pre‑employment medical.
• Willing to obtain high‑risk licenses.
• Willing to work a 75‑hour fortnight (overtime possible).
• Willing to travel to remote locations and attend training.

Responsibilities

• Learn on the job alongside qualified tradespeople.
• Develop skills in installation, maintenance and inspection of poles and structures.
• Progress toward a Nationally recognised trade qualification (UET30621).
• Work across WA locations and rotate with training requirements.

We're currently seeking Lineworker Apprentices for Geraldton

What Does a Lineworker Apprentice Do?

As a Lineworker Apprentice, you will work towards obtaining a Nationally recognised Certificate III in ESI – Distribution Overhead (UET30621).

Alongside experienced tradespeople while developing the technical knowledge and practical skills required to become a qualified tradesperson:

Gain knowledge in areas such as installation, maintenance and inspection of poles, structures and associated hardware

Nominal term for this qualification is 48 months

What makes me a suitable candidate for Western Power apprenticeships?

Must be 18 years or older to apply for these positions

Have obtained a “C” class drivers license

Have completed minimum of Year 10 secondary education with English and Mathematics skills (depending on your apprenticeship)

Be physically fit and carry the ability to lift heavy equipment

Be willing to complete a pre‑employment medical assessment

Be willing to/have obtained a range of high‑risk licensing

Be willing to work shift consisting of a 75‑hour fortnight (overtime may be applicable, roster days off applicable)

Be willing to work and travel in remote locations pending on your work rotations, including travelling to attend TAFE and external training courses

The ability to interpret complex instructions, designs and diagrams

The ability to operate large equipment such as elevated work platforms and hydraulic drills
