Job summary

Western Power is seeking Electrical Apprentices for South Metro Depot in WA to start a four-year, full-time apprenticeship. You will work with qualified tradespeople, gain hands-on experience, and progress toward a nationally recognised Certificate III in Engineering - Industrial Electrical (MEM31219).

Qualifications

• Be willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
• Have completed minimum of Year 10 education with English and Mathematics.
• Be willing to work 75-hour fortnight including overtime and rosters.

Responsibilities

• Develop knowledge to select, set up and install electrical systems and equipment.
• Test, fault-find, repair and maintain electrical systems in buildings and industrial environments.
• Work alongside qualified tradespeople to gain hands-on experience.
• Operate equipment such as elevated work platforms and hydraulic drills.

We're currently seeking Electrical Apprentices for South Metro Depot (SMD).

What Does an Electrical Apprentice Do?

During your Electrical Apprentice, you will work towards obtaining a Nationally recognised Certificate III in Engineering - Industrial Electrical (MEM31219) which includes meeting the requirements for an Electrical license.

You will work alongside experienced tradespeople while developing the technical knowledge and practical skills required to become a qualified tradesperson.

• Develop knowledge in how to select, set up and install, test, fault-find, repair and maintain electrical systems and equipment in buildings and industrial environments
• Nominal term for this qualification is 48 months
• At Western Power - an apprentice electrician holds the same qualification as a household electrician; however, they typically work in substations and other network assets.

What makes me a suitable candidate for Western Power apprenticeships?

Due to the nature of these apprenticeships. It is highly desirable for candidates to have obtained Cert II in Engineering foundations | Electrotechnology prior to applying.

• Must be 18 years or older to apply for these positions
• Have obtained a "C" class drivers license
• Have completed minimum of Year 10 secondary education with English and Mathematics skills (depending on your apprenticeship)
• Be physically fit and carry the ability to lift heavy equipment
• Be willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
• Be willing to/have obtained a range of high-risk licensing
• Be willing to work shift consisting of a 75-hour fortnight (overtime may be applicable, roster days off applicable)
• Be willing to work and travel in remote locations pending on your work rotations, including travelling to attend TAFE and external training courses
• The ability to interpret complex instructions, designs and diagrams
• The ability to operate large equipment such as elevated work platforms and hydraulic drills

Location Flexibility and Future Employment

Apprentices may be required to undertake training or rotations across different Western Power locations. Final placement locations cannot be guaranteed and will depend on business requirements and workforce demand at the time.
