Job summary

Western Power is offering Lineworker Apprenticeships across multiple WA locations, including South Metro Depot in Forrestdale. The program runs for four years with on-the-job training and formal technical instruction to achieve a Nationally recognised trade qualification.

Apprentices gain hands-on experience with skilled tradespeople, learn installation, maintenance and inspection of poles and structures, and prepare for a career in the energy transition within a government-backed utility.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older to apply.
• Have obtained a "C" class driver's license.
• Be physically fit and carry the ability to lift heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Work toward obtaining a Nationally recognised Certificate III in ESI - Distribution Overhead (UET30621).
• Learn installation, maintenance and inspection of poles, structures and hardware.
• Participate in a 4-year structured apprenticeship with on-the-job learning and formal training.

We’re currently seeking Lineworker Apprentices across a number of locations, including Albany, Balcatta, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Merredin, Narogin, Northam, Picton, Pinjarra, South Metro Depot (Forrestdale).

What Does a Lineworker Apprentice Do?

As a Lineworker Apprentice, you will work towards obtaining a Nationally recognised Certificate III in ESI - Distribution Overhead (UET30621).

Alongside experienced tradespeople while developing the technical knowledge and practical skills required to become a qualified tradesperson:

• Gain knowledge in areas such as installation, maintenance and inspection of poles, structures and associated hardware
• Nominal term for this qualification is 48 months

What makes me a suitable candidate for Western Power apprenticeships?

• Must be 18 years or older to apply for these positions
• Have obtained a "C" class drivers license
• Have completed minimum of Year 10 secondary education with English and Mathematics skills (depending on your apprenticeship)
• Be physically fit and carry the ability to lift heavy equipment
• Be willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
• Be willing to/have obtained a range of high-risk licensing
• Be willing to work shift consisting of a 75-hour fortnight (overtime may be applicable, roster days off applicable)
• Be willing to work and travel in remote locations pending on your work rotations, including travelling to attend TAFE and external training courses
• The ability to interpret complex instructions, designs and diagrams
• The ability to operate large equipment such as elevated work platforms and hydraulic drills

Location Flexibility and Future Employment

Apprentices may be required to undertake training or rotations across different Western Power locations. Ongoing employment and final placement locations cannot be guaranteed and will depend on business requirements and workforce demand at the time.
