Job summary

Western Power in Geraldton is offering Mechanical / Automotive Electrical Apprenticeships. You will gain hands-on experience toward nationally recognised certificates while building a rewarding career in WA's thriving transport and energy sectors, contributing to the reliability of essential services.

The four-year program blends on-the-job learning with formal training, mentoring and clear development pathways, with opportunities to work on heavy vehicles, electrical systems and new energy

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years or older to apply.
• Have obtained a C class drivers license
• Year 10 secondary education with English and Mathematics
• Be physically fit and able to lift heavy equipment
• Willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment and licensing
• Willing to travel to remote locations for rotations

Responsibilities

• Learn to diagnose, service and repair a wide range of heavy vehicles and mobile plant equipment.
• Assist with electrical systems knowledge and hands-on tasks under supervision

What Does a Mechanical / Automotive Electrical Apprentice Do?

As aMechanical Apprentice, you will work towards obtaining a nationally recognised Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology. As aAutomotive Electrical Apprentice you will work towards obtaining a nationally recognised Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology. Whether you're passionate about mechanics, or curious about auto-electrical systems, this apprenticeship offers solid foundation for a rewarding career in the transport and logistics industry:

• Learn skills to diagnose, service, and repair a wide range of heavy vehicles and mobile plant equipment

What makes me a suitable candidate for Western Power apprenticeships?

Due to the nature of these apprenticeships. It is highly desirable for candidates to have obtained Cert II in Engineering foundations | Electrotechnology prior to applying

• Must be 16 years or older to apply for these positions
• Have obtained a "C" class drivers license
• Have completed minimum of Year 10 secondary education with English and Mathematics skills (depending on your apprenticeship)
• Be physically fit and carry the ability to lift heavy equipment
• Be willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
• Be willing to/have obtained a range of high-risk licensing
• Be willing to work shift consisting of a 75-hour fortnight (overtime may be applicable, roster days off applicable)
• Be willing to work and travel in remote locations pending on your work rotations, including travelling to attend TAFE and external training courses
• The ability to interpret complex instructions, designs and diagrams
• The ability to operate large equipment such as elevated work platforms and hydraulic drills

Location Flexibility and Future Employment

Apprentices may be required to undertake training or rotations across different Western Power locations. Final placement locations cannot be guaranteed and will depend on business requirements and workforce demand at the time.
