Job summary

Logan City Council invites applications for casual library roles across its 9 libraries. You will assist the Regional Coordinator and Senior Librarian, providing excellent customer service and staff supervision while supporting development opportunities.

The position focuses on delivering high-quality library services and community programs. Candidates should have a Degree or Graduate Diploma in Library Science and be eligible for ALIA Associate membership, with experience in library systems,

Qualifications

  • Degree or Graduate Diploma in Library Science is required.
  • Eligibility for Associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) is required.
  • Experience with library systems and digital resources is expected.
  • Supervisory experience in a library setting is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Regional Coordinator and Senior Librarian with library services and customer service.
  • Support rostered staff and assist in staff supervision and development.
  • Contribute to collection management and library system reporting tasks.
  • Perform administrative duties including rostering, cash reconciliation, and statistics.
  • Design and deliver customised digital training programs for the public and staff.

Job description

These casual roles will have you working across council's 9 libraries assisting the Regional Coordinator and Senior Librarian to promote community focused outcomes and ensure service quality. You will assist the Regional Coordinator and the Senior Librarian by providing excellent customer service, supervision of staff including supporting their professional development.

Position responsibilities include:
  • Contribute to the delivery of library services by undertaking library and customer service duties as rostered.
  • Support the Regional Library Coordinator in their day to day activities and to act in the Senior Librarian role if required responsibility for supervision of library staff, decision making on operational matters.
  • Contribute to library collection management and relevant tasks resulting from library system generated reports.
  • Provide accurate and efficient rostering, cash reconciliation, statistical collation, facility management and/or other administrative duties commensurate with the role.
  • Apply well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills related to current technologies to design and deliver customised digital training programs to the public and library staff.
  • Coordinate the administrative tasks for monitoring and reporting on library programming.
  • Lead by example by providing a consistently high level of customer service in an environment of constant public contact.
Key indicators for success:
  • Minimum qualifications of a Degree or Graduate Diploma in Library Science and eligibility for Associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association; and an appropriate level of expertise and experience to undertake the range of responsibilities assigned.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology including experience and knowledge using smart devices, computers, the internet, software applications, web-based applications, digital library resources and automated library systems.
  • Previous supervisory experience demonstrating a capacity to take on a leadership role within a work team to contribute to the delivery of business outcomes and support change management.
