Job summary

AECOM's Buildings & Places team in Melbourne is seeking a technically strong Principal Structural Engineer to lead complex building projects across health, education, defence, transport, aviation and commercial sectors.

You will coordinate resources across our national Building Structures and Civil team, mentor staff, manage workloads, and help grow our structural engineering portfolio while ensuring high-quality, code-compliant design outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil / Structural Engineering with 9+ years’ experience delivering complex projects in Australia and New Zealand.
• Strong technical expertise with independent specialist input across conceptual and detailed design.
• Proficiency in ETABS, RAM Concept, RAPT and SpaceGASS for structural modelling.
• Excellent organizational and planning skills to balance priorities across multiple projects.
• Strong communication to engage stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of complex building projects across health, education, defence, transport, commercial, aviation, sports and data centres.
• Contribute to conceptual and detailed structural design and construction administration.
• Provide technical leadership across structural building design and ensure compliance with codes.
• Prepare and review design calculations, specifications, models and documentation.
• Build strong client relationships and contribute to winning work.
• Coordinate design outcomes with clients, other disciplines and project teams.
• Lead, mentor and develop team members.
• Coordinate workforce planning across national Building Structures and Civil teams.
