Job summary

NSW Department of Customer Service seeks a Principal Field Services Engineer to support and modernise the Public Safety Network across NSW. The role covers field engineering, testing, commissioning and ongoing maintenance of critical telecom infrastructure with a hybrid work setup and travel to PSN sites.

You will lead technical delivery, mentor engineers and technicians, and collaborate with project teams to ensure resilience and safety of the PSN.

Qualifications

• Essential Security Clearance: Baseline clearance within six months.
• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Telecommunications, Electronics or related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with telecommunications infrastructure and related systems.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for complex issues.
• Experience commissioning, testing, integrating, upgrading and maintaining telecom/critical infrastructure assets.
• Strong stakeholder engagement with engineers, contractors, project teams and customers.
• Ability to travel throughout NSW for testing, commissioning, maintenance and operations; White Card, RF EME Awareness, CPR/First Aid, 4WD cert and full Driver Licence.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking complex field engineering activities across mission-critical telecommunications infrastructure.
• Performing commissioning, integration, testing and acceptance of new infrastructure and technology.
• Investigating, analysing and resolving complex technical issues via fault diagnosis and engineering improvements.
• Supporting asset refresh programs, site upgrades and operational improvement initiatives.
• Providing specialist engineering advice to support lifecycle management and network resilience.
• Collaborating with engineering, operational and project teams to ensure safe, efficient field delivery.
• Mentoring and coaching engineers, field technicians and project teams.
