Lead Design Manager – Transport Infrastructure Delivery

Job summary

BMD is delivering a major transport infrastructure project in Sydney. As Design Manager you will lead the development, coordination and assurance of multidisciplinary design solutions from tender through to project completion, collaborating with construction, commercial and leadership teams.

You will champion design excellence, manage consultants and stakeholders, and ensure safe, compliant, buildable outcomes aligned with project objectives while mentoring engineers on a high-performing team.

Qualifications

• Civil Engineering degree and CPEng (or equivalent).
• Tier 1 or Tier 2 D&C infrastructure project experience.
• Proven success delivering major road, rail or transport projects.
• Strong leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Experience managing consultants, approvals and stakeholder interfaces.
• Sound commercial acumen and risk management capability.
• Knowledge of BIM and digital engineering environments.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead design delivery across a major transport infrastructure project from tender to completion.
• Manage Design Management Plans, governance frameworks and design processes.
• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and design consultants.
• Drive design integration, constructability, compliance and value engineering outcomes.
• Build strong relationships with clients, designers, authorities and key stakeholders.
• Manage design risks, changes and technical issues throughout the project lifecycle.
• Collaborate with construction and commercial teams to achieve project objectives.
• Champion Safety in Design principles and technical excellence.
• Lead design reviews, approvals and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to a high-performing project team.
