Job summary

Northern Rivers Community Gateway is seeking a compassionate Community Engagement & Support Officer to join our team at the Kyogle Neighbourhood Centre.

You will provide practical assistance, intake, information and referrals to individuals and families accessing the Centre, while supporting community strengthening initiatives that promote inclusion, wellbeing and participation. This is a permanent part-time role with a fixed roster.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience in community services or a related field.
• Experience in client intake, community engagement, or supporting vulnerable individuals and families.
• Ability to identify client needs and connect people with relevant services.
• Experience supporting community programs, activities, workshops or events.
• Understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based and person-centred approaches.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with diverse communities.
• Sound administrative skills and computer literacy (MS Office, record keeping).
• Ability to work independently and in a team while managing competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Provide client intake, initial assessments, information and referrals to individuals and families seeking support.
• Assist clients to access community services, government assistance and other relevant programs.
• Provide practical assistance, brief interventions and appropriate follow-up to clients.
• Support planning and delivery of community activities, workshops and events.
• Build positive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members and local service providers.
• Promote community participation, social inclusion and wellbeing through local initiatives.
• Assist with day-to-day operation, including reception and administrative duties.
• Maintain accurate client records and program documentation.
