Job summary

EVT Limited's Rydges Adelaide is seeking a reliable Kitchen Steward to support chefs by keeping the kitchen clean and ready for service in a busy, high-volume environment.

This role emphasizes attention to detail, flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends, and a proactive, team-focused approach in a dynamic hotel setting across day-to-day dining and events.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Kitchen Steward/Hand is desirable but not essential.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Flexible to a rotating roster incl. early mornings, evenings, weekends.

Responsibilities

• Wash and sanitise crockery and equipment to a high standard per food safety rules.
• Keep kitchen floors, walls, benches and gear clean throughout shift.
• Assist chefs with basic prep and delivering clean equipment during service.
• Manage waste disposal and recycling per hotel procedures.
• Operate dishwashing machines safely and report faults.
• Support setup and pack-down for events and services.
• Monitor stock of cleaning supplies.

About the Role

We're looking for a reliable, hardworking Kitchen Steward to join the team at Rydges Adelaide, supporting our chefs by keeping the kitchen clean, organised and ready to perform, shift after shift. This role is perfect for someone who takes pride in the details others might overlook and enjoys being a key part of a busy, high-volume kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

• Wash and sanitise crockery, cutlery, cookware, and kitchen equipment to a high standard, in line with food safety requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, walls, benches, and equipment throughout and at the end of each shift.
• Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks and the timely delivery of clean equipment during service.
• Manage waste disposal and recycling in line with hotel and environmental procedures.
• Safely operate dishwashing machines and cleaning equipment, reporting any faults promptly.
• Support the setup and pack-down of kitchen areas for conference, banquet, and restaurant services.
• Monitor and maintain stock of cleaning supplies and kitchen consumables.
• Follow all WH&S, hygiene, and food safety procedures at all times.

What You'll Bring

• Previous experience as a Kitchen Steward, Kitchen Hand, or similar role is desirable but not essential.
• A strong work ethic and willingness to get stuck into a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Good understanding of food safety and hygiene standards, or willingness to learn.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure, especially during peak service and large events.
• Physical capability to manage the demands of the role, including standing, lifting, and repetitive tasks.
• A team player who communicates well with chefs and fellow kitchen staff.
• Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends around the events calendar.
