Job summary

seek.com.au is recruiting an Internal Sales Engineer in Melbourne to support customers and the Sales team from initial enquiry through to quotation and order handover. This permanent role blends technical problem solving with customer and supplier communication in a varied engineering and manufacturing environment.

You will review drawings, research applications, prepare proposals, and coordinate RFQs, working closely with Sales, Engineering and Operations.

This is a permanent internal role combining technical problem solving, customer and supplier communication, product research, quotation preparation and opportunity coordination within a varied engineering and manufacturing environment.

The role will suit someone who enjoys customer interaction, technical learning and solving practical problems while working closely with customers, suppliers, Sales, Engineering and Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to customer enquiries and clarify technical and commercial requirements.

• Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, data sheets and other customer documentation.

• Research applications and recommend suitable products or solution pathways.

• Provide practical application support and coordinate specialist Engineering or supplier input where required.

• Communicate confidently with customers by phone, email and online meetings.

• Coordinate RFQs from initial enquiry through clarification, technical input, quotation preparation and submission.

• Prepare estimates, quotations and proposals using ERP, CRM and approved pricing or configuration tools.

• Liaise with local and international suppliers regarding technical information, pricing, availability, lead times and alternatives.

• Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, quotation and activity records in business systems.

• Provide technical input for product information, customer communications and sales activities where required.

About you

We are looking for someone with:

• Strong technical aptitude and mechanical or electrical reasoning.

• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and data sheets.

• Clear verbal and written communication skills.

• A practical, solutions-focused approach to problem solving.

• Good organisation and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

• Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping.

• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and independently when required.

• Confidence using CRM, ERP and Microsoft 365 systems and an ability to learn new systems.

• Adaptability to changing customer requirements, technology and business processes.

• Experience in manufacturing, engineering, OEM, industrial or technology environments is highly regarded.

Qualifications in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering are desirable but not essential where equivalent technical aptitude and relevant experience can be demonstrated.
