Job summary

Westpac is seeking a hands-on AI Engineer to design, build and support defined AI service features across software, data, AI, integration and UX. You will work with approved AI tools, maintaining human review, traceability and accountability in every delivery.

You’ll contribute to design reviews, code reviews, and incident learning while raising gaps and risks early to ensure reliable, secure AI outcomes within a hybrid Sydney/Melbourne team.

Qualifications

• Hands‑on engineering across software, data, AI services, integration and operations.
• Experience with APIs, events, data flows, service boundaries and error handling.
• Knowledge of secure coding, testing, CI/CD, observability, and production support.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, release and support AI service features and components.
• Engineer across software, data, AI, integration and UX as needed.
• Create clear code, tests, docs, runbooks and release evidence.
• Apply patterns for security, privacy, Responsible AI and resilience.
• Participate in design/code reviews, incident learning and improvement.
• Identify gaps, blockers and risks early.
