Job summary

Westpac is seeking hands-on AI Engineers to design, build and operationalise production-ready AI applications, services and platforms within a regulated enterprise. You will work across technology, data, risk, security, product and business teams to deliver secure, scalable AI capabilities.

The role emphasizes end-to-end responsibility from design to delivery, with a focus on RAG, embeddings, and model evaluation, while balancing speed with safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Hands-on AI engineering experience in large, regulated environments.
• Ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong software engineering background across backend services and production systems.
• Experience operationalising LLM/AI services beyond prototypes or academic projects.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and ship production-ready AI applications, services, agents and internal tools.
• Integrate foundation models, ML models, RAG, vector stores and AI services into secure enterprise workflows.
• Build pipelines for prompt management, model invocation, grounding, validation and evaluation.
• Embed security, privacy, compliance, model risk and responsible AI guardrails from design to delivery.
• Build testing, evaluation, monitoring, and feedback loops for quality, performance, safety, and cost.
• Optimise latency, reliability, and cost across AI workloads.
• Collaborate with product, data, risk, security, and platform teams to clarify requirements, surface trade-offs, and align priorities for delivery.
