Job summary

Westpac is seeking a hands-on AI Services full-stack engineer in Sydney or Melbourne, working in a hybrid setup. You will build safe intelligence experiences that support authorised human decision-makers while applying governance, security and privacy controls.

You will work across backend services, APIs, data stores, AI workflows and modern web apps, delivering features within defined designs. You’ll champion evidence, data quality, access controls and reliability in production systems.

Qualifications

• Hands-on full-stack engineering experience across backend services, APIs, data stores and modern web applications.
• Experience with Go or Python, SQL, TypeScript, React and Next.js.
• Knowledge of identity, entitlements, durable state, audit, data lineage, data quality and access controls.
• Understanding of graph concepts including entities, relationships, bounded paths and evidence links.

Responsibilities

• Build, test, release and support features spanning data, services, APIs, AI workflows and user experiences.
• Preserve source references, lineage, access rules, time and data-quality information throughout assigned work.
• Show missing, stale, denied, incomplete and unavailable information honestly and clearly.
• Implement approved agent controls, bounded tools and evidence for material claims.
• Protect sensitive information by avoiding unnecessary copying, display or logging of personal data.
• Build automated tests, useful diagnostics and safe handling of errors, retries and recovery.
