Job summary

Department of Housing & Public Works QLD in Cairns, QLD is seeking a role focused on delivering culturally responsive, person-centred housing services to First Nations communities. Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with First Nations peoples, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Councils, to foster collaborative relationships with the community.
• Conduct comprehensive, person-centred customer interviews around housing need and assess social housing applications.
• Monitor arrears, rent payments and action sundry debts as required.
• Conduct home visits and investigate tenancy issues, escalating to Senior Housing Officer when needed.
• Maintain accurate customer and property records across multiple IT systems.
• Support workplace safety by adhering to WHS policies and procedures.

You will provide a broad range of services and advice to customers with complex support needs, advocates and other stakeholders. As part of a team you will provide high quality, person-centred assistance to diverse customers experiencing complex and challenging housing, and whole of life issues. Travel and field work may be required to remote communities. The department does not provide long term accommodation for this role. When travelling on behalf of the department, accommodation will be provided.

In this role, you will deliver culturally responsive, person-centred housing services to First Nations peoples and communities, while supporting effective tenancy management, customer service, and community engagement.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Communicate effectively and sensitively with First Nations peoples, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Councils, to foster collaborative relationships with the community.
• Conduct comprehensive, person-centred customer interviews around housing need. Assess social housing applications, quality assuring assessments and conducting regular reviews of applications.
• Monitor and follow-up arrears, rent payments and action sundry debts as required.
• Conduct home visits and investigate and facilitate the resolution of tenancy issues, complaints and maintenance issues, escalating appropriately to Senior Housing Officer.
• Maintain accurate and timely customer and property records and files ensuring departmental compliance. Enter a high volume of data and process documents utilising a number of IT systems.
• Support and maintain a workplace safety culture by ensuring that Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to.
