Job summary

Lindsay Transport in Derrimut, VIC is seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to lead a high-volume heavy vehicle workshop and drive safety, quality and performance.

You’ll mentor apprentices, oversee fleet maintenance, and partner with operations to keep the fleet moving. The role blends hands-on leadership with strategic team development in a modern, safety-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience leading a workshop, fleet maintenance, or heavy vehicle operation.
• A Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Trade Qualification or significant industry experience.
• Proven success leading, coaching, and developing tradespeople and apprentices.
• Experience within transport, logistics, fleet, agricultural, or related industries.
• Strong planning, scheduling, and resource management skills.
• Hands-on leadership style with the ability to lead from the front.
• Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships across all levels of the business.

Responsibilities

• Provide strong, visible leadership and direction to the workshop team.
• Lead, motivate and support employees to achieve individual and team performance goals.
• Set clear expectations and drive accountability, productivity and quality.
• Coach, mentor and develop apprentices and workshop employees.
• Foster a positive, respectful and safety-focused workshop culture.
• Lead by example and be prepared to get hands-on when required.
• Oversee the planning, prioritisation and allocation of work across the workshop and maintenance team.
• Manage the repair, maintenance and testing of a high-volume heavy vehicle fleet and associated mechanical and electrical components.
• Monitor workflow and workshop priorities to minimise downtime and keep the fleet moving.
• Provide technical support to the team and assist with breakdowns and call-outs when required.
• Raise and process repair and purchase orders and oversee stock and receivables.
• Ensure workshop documentation, maintenance records and compliance requirements are completed accurately and on time.
• Work closely with operational teams to respond to changing fleet and maintenance priorities.
