Job summary

Irons Auto Repairs in Townsend, NSW is seeking an experienced Mechanic for a full-time role. You will diagnose faults, perform maintenance, and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions and electrical systems.

Weld and fabricate as needed, while upholding safety standards and accurate job records. The successful candidate will have a recognised automotive apprenticeship, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to read technical manuals.

Qualifications

• Recognised apprenticeship or qualification in automotive mechanics or equivalent hands-on experience
• Strong diagnostic and mechanical knowledge across engines, transmissions and suspensions
• Proficient with diagnostic tools and modern automotive equipment
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications

Responsibilities

• Diagnose vehicle faults and mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and technical expertise
• Perform routine maintenance services including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid top-ups and general inspections
• Conduct repairs to engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension and electrical components
• Execute welding and fabrication tasks as required for vehicle repairs and modifications
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and workshop procedures to maintain a safe working environment
• Maintain accurate records of work completed and parts used for each vehicle serviced
• Communicate with customers to explain repairs needed and provide cost estimates
• Ensure tools and workshop equipment are maintained in good working condition
• Keep abreast of new automotive technologies and repair techniques relevant to the trade

This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work on a diverse range of vehicles and provide high-quality automotive repair and maintenance services to our valued customers. As a key member of our workshop, you will play a vital role in maintaining our reputation for excellence and ensuring customer satisfaction through your technical expertise and professionalism.

Key responsibilities

Diagnose vehicle faults and mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and technical expertise

What we're looking for

Recognised apprenticeship or qualification in automotive mechanics or equivalent hands-on experience

Proven experience as a mechanic in a professional workshop environment

Strong knowledge of vehicle systems including engines, transmissions, electrical systems and suspension

Proficiency with diagnostic tools and modern automotive equipment

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Valid driver's licence and willingness to test drive vehicles where appropriate

Strong communication and customer service skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced workshop environment
