Job summary

Big wheel tyres and mechanical repairs is seeking an experienced Motor Mechanic to join our Sydney area workshop. Inspect, diagnose, service and repair light motor vehicles across a range of makes and models, identifying faults affecting performance, reliability and safety.

You will perform engine and system diagnostics, carry out log-book servicing, and maintain accurate workshop records while upholding WHS standards.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in automotive repairs with relevant certificates.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults.
• Experience training or mentoring apprentices is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, service and repair light motor vehicles across makes/models.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify engine, transmission, ABS and other faults.
• Perform scheduled log-book servicing per manufacturer specs.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced, qualified Motor Mechanic to join our business Big wheel tyres and mechanical repairs.

Inspect, diagnose, service and repair light motor vehicles across a range of makes and models, identifying mechanical, electrical and electronic faults affecting vehicle performance, reliability and safety.

Carry out comprehensive mechanical inspections and diagnostic assessments of engines, transmissions, steering systems, suspension, braking systems, cooling systems, driveline components and other vehicle systems.

Use manufacturer service information, repair manuals, diagnostic scan tools and electronic testing equipment to identify engine management, transmission, ABS, SRS and other vehicle faults.

Perform scheduled log-book servicing in accordance with manufacturer specifications, including engine oil and filter replacement, fluid checks, lubrication, tyre rotation, brake inspections and general vehicle safety inspections.

Diagnose and repair braking and suspension systems, including replacement of brake components, suspension components, wheel bearings and related mechanical parts, and adjust components to manufacturer specifications.

Diagnose and repair cooling-system faults and replace components including radiators, water pumps, drive belts, cooling-system components and associated parts where required.

Remove, inspect, repair and replace defective mechanical components, including alternators, air-conditioning compressors, centre bearings, belts, suspension components, braking components, transmission and clutch-related parts.

Carry out engine performance and drivability diagnostics using computerised scan equipment, interpreting diagnostic trouble codes and conducting appropriate testing to identify the underlying cause of faults.

Test and diagnose automotive electrical and electronic faults associated with engine management, starting and charging systems, sensors and vehicle control systems, including alternator and starter motor faults.

Conduct post-repair testing, road testing and vehicle performance checks to verify that identified faults have been rectified and that repaired systems operate correctly and safely.

Perform tyre-related mechanical services, including tyre removal and replacement, wheel balancing, tyre rotation and inspection of tyres and wheels for wear, damage and safety concerns.

Inspect steering, suspension, braking and tyre components to identify safety-related defects and advise on repairs required to maintain vehicle roadworthiness.

Carry out vehicle inspections and prepare vehicles for NSW registration/roadworthiness requirements where applicable, identifying defects and completing required repair work.

Diagnose air-conditioning and related mechanical faults and replace components such as air-conditioning compressors where required, in accordance with applicable procedures and workshop requirements.

Dismantle and reassemble mechanical components following repairs, ensuring correct installation, adjustment, torque specifications and manufacturer requirements are followed.

Maintain accurate workshop service records, document diagnostic findings, repairs and replacement parts, and communicate completed work and further repair requirements to customers and workshop management.

Maintain a safe, clean and organised workshop environment and follow workplace health and safety procedures when using vehicle hoists, hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment and workshop machinery.

Provide breakdown and fault-assistance services when required, assessing vehicle faults and determining appropriate repair or recovery requirements.

Ensure all repair and servicing work is completed to appropriate manufacturer specifications, industry standards and Big Wheel Tyre & Mechanical Repairs' workshop procedures.

This role is a Full-Time opportunity with overtime availability. You’ll need to show great attention to detail and be focused on delivering work to the highest standards.

Essential skills include

Minimum 3-5 years' experience as a qualified Motor Mechanic & Tyre Technician

Automotive trade qualification and certificates

About the Business

We are located on Eddie Road, Minchinbury and are an established, family owned and operated mechanical workshop. Our services range from tyres, to e-safety inspections, and all mechanical repairs and servicing.

We are looking for a hardworking, dedicated, experienced mechanic to join our expanding team. We are an authorized e-safety inspection station, as well as a licensed automotive air conditioning specialist. We encourage approved examiners and air-conditioning license holders to apply!
