Job summary

CommSec, part of Commonwealth Bank, is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead Customer & Digital platforms in Australia. You will shape the technology strategy, drive cloud-first delivery, and foster high-performing engineering teams to deliver secure, resilient and customer-focused experiences at scale.

You will partner with product leaders to set a compelling digital roadmap, own architecture decisions, and lead meaningful transformations across digital, cloud and AI initiatives for investors

Qualifications

• Proven experience shaping and delivering digital, engineering and AI technology strategies.
• Strong people leadership capability, with experience developing leaders and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and align teams around a shared product and technology vision.
• Deep knowledge of modern software engineering, architecture and microservices.
• Experience leading cloud-based technology teams, ideally with exposure to AWS.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevSecOps, release management and reliable technology operations.
• A data-informed approach to prioritisation, investment decisions and continuous improvement.
• Experience in investment, securities or digital financial services would be highly regarded.

• Define and execute the technology strategy and roadmap for customer and digital experiences.
• Partner with product leaders to translate customer needs and business priorities into scalable technology outcomes.
• Lead the delivery of secure, resilient and high-quality digital and AI capabilities.
• Grow diverse, high-performing engineering teams across multiple locations.
• Strengthen modern engineering, cloud, DevSecOps and continuous delivery practices.
• Own the performance, availability and total cost of ownership of the portfolio’s technology assets.
• Align architecture and delivery decisions with enterprise technology strategy and engineering guardrails.
• Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, learning and continuous improvement.
