Job summary

Club Malua invites an experienced Head of Greens & Maintenance to lead the presentation and upkeep of two natural grass bowling greens in Malua Bay, NSW. This full-time role (38 hours/week) includes early mornings and some weekend work to support bowls events.

The successful candidate will manage greenkeeping operations, coordinate seasonal programs, and ensure high-quality surfaces for social bowls, pennants, championships and tournaments.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, mow, roll and maintain two natural grass bowling greens.
• Ensure greens are prepared to a high standard for social bowls, pennants, championships and tournaments.
• Develop and manage seasonal turf maintenance programs with the Maintenance Manager.
• Undertake fertilising, aerating, top-dressing, pest control and disease management.
• Monitor turf health, irrigation requirements and playing conditions.
• Maintain gardens, banks, pathways and surrounding outdoor areas.
• Operate, service and maintain greenkeeping machinery and equipment.
• Coordinate contractors and suppliers as needed.
• Assist with general club maintenance and minor repairs.
• Maintain materials, chemicals, equipment and maintenance records.
• Maintain a safe working environment and compliance with WHS requirements.
• Communicate effectively with management, Bowls Committee and members.

Job description

Club Malua is seeking an experienced and motivated Head of Greens & Maintenance to oversee the presentation, care and ongoing maintenance of our bowling greens, grounds and club facilities.

Located in the coastal community of Malua Bay, Club Malua is home to approximately 130 playing bowls members and operates two natural grass bowling greens. The greens are central to the club's bowling activities, including regular social bowls, pennants, championships and tournaments.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who takes pride in producing quality playing surfaces, can work independently and understands the importance of presenting a welcoming and well-maintained community venue.

About the Role

This is a full-time position of 38 hours per week, early morning and weekend work required to support bowls events, tournaments and seasonal maintenance.

The successful applicant will take primary responsibility for the condition and presentation of the club's two grass bowling greens, surrounding grounds and general outdoor facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, mow, roll and maintain two natural grass bowling greens.

Ensure greens are prepared to a high standard for social bowls, pennants, championships and tournaments.

Collaborate, develop and manage seasonal turf maintenance and renovation programs in conjunction with Green and Maintenance Manager for Cabra Bowls.

Undertake fertilising, aerating, top-dressing, pest control and disease management.

Monitor turf health, irrigation requirements and playing conditions.

Maintain gardens, banks, pathways and surrounding outdoor areas.

Operate, service and maintain greenkeeping machinery and equipment.

Coordinate specialist contractors and suppliers when required.

Assist with general club maintenance, minor repairs and improvement projects.

Manage greenkeeping materials, chemicals, equipment and maintenance records.

Maintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with relevant workplace health and safety requirements.

Communicate effectively with club management, the Bowls Committee and playing members.

About You

The ideal applicant will have:

Previous experience in greenkeeping, turf management or sports-ground maintenance.

Demonstrated experience maintaining natural turf bowling greens or comparable sporting surfaces.

A sound understanding of turf renovation, irrigation, fertilising, pest control and disease management.

The ability to plan and manage work independently.

Strong organisational and time-management skills.

A practical, hands-on approach to general maintenance.

Pride in maintaining high-quality playing surfaces and club facilities.

Good communication skills and the ability to work positively with members, staff and contractors.

Availability to work early mornings and some weekends when required.

Relevant qualifications in sports turf management, horticulture or greenkeeping will be highly regarded. A current driver licence and relevant chemical-handling qualifications are also desirable.
