Job summary

NES Fircroft invites applications for a mid-career Mechanical Engineer to join a small, high-performing team at Lucas Heights, NSW. You will design, draft, fabricate, assemble and commission specialised mechanical systems across the full project lifecycle.

You will collaborate with technicians and engineers, translating requirements into practical, robust solutions while delivering from concept to manufacture in a hands-on environment. Australian citizenship and NV1 eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years' post-graduate experience in mechanical engineering.
• Strong CAD modelling and detailed design capability.
• Experience taking designs from concept to manufacture.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
• Hands-on fabrication, assembly or workshop experience.
• Experience with pressure equipment, vacuum systems, optics or electro-mechanical integration preferred.
• Background in defence, medical devices, nuclear, scientific instrumentation, manufacturing or heavy industry environments preferred.
• Ability to translate engineering requirements into practical design solutions.
• Able to work closely with workshop personnel.
• Coachable, adaptable and eager to learn from senior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs from concept through to prototype and manufacture.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Design and develop mechanical and opto-mechanical systems.
• Support fabrication, assembly, testing and commissioning activities.
• Develop prototypes, jigs, fixtures and test equipment.
• Conduct design reviews, validation and risk assessments.
• Manage procurement and external manufacturing activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Contribute to QA/QC and engineering documentation processes.
• Ensure compliance with WHS and regulatory requirements.
