Job summary

ProFound People is seeking a Lead/Senior Mechanical Engineer for a Canberra-based, on-site role focused on precision hardware. You will own mechanical design from concept through to manufacture and test, with direct ownership from day one.

The position requires strong FEA capability (AN SYS/ similar) and SolidWorks CAD, plus a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Relocation assistance is available, and the path to Australian security clearance is provided.

Lead Mechanical Engineer - Precision Systems

About the role

A growing Australian engineering company working on advanced, high-technology hardware is looking for a Lead / Senior Mechanical Engineer to take ownership of precision mechanical design across its programs - the kind of engineer who thrives on tight tolerances, hard requirements, and hardware that has to perform reliably in demanding environments.

This is a Canberra-based, on-site role. We know the best person may not already live there, so relocation support is available for the right candidate anywhere in Australia.

What you'll do

• Own mechanical design of precision hardware from concept through to manufacture and test
• Lead structural and thermal analysis (FEA) to validate designs against demanding performance and environmental requirements
• Drive tolerance stack-ups, GD&T and design-for-manufacture on tight-tolerance assemblies
• Run design reviews and work across multiple engineering disciplines and manufacturing
• Engage suppliers on precision components, and take hardware from prototype to qualified build

What we're looking for

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar, with strong hands-on precision design experience
• A track record of designing to fine tolerances - we're interested in people from aerospace, semiconductor, defence, medical devices, scientific instruments, or other high-precision fields
• Strong FEA capability (ANSYS or similar) and CAD proficiency in SolidWorks
• Confidence owning designs end-to-end and, for the lead level, guiding other engineers
• Australian citizenship is required, as the role involves obtaining an Australian Government security clearance (sponsored on commencement)
